1955 Topps New York Yankees Complete Team Set + The MISSING 1955 Topps Baseball Cards! TWENTY-SEVEN DIFFERENT 1955 NEW YORK YANKEES CARDS (13 Original Topps Cards, 8 Custom Cards, 2 Topps "Lost Cards" 1 Reprint, 1 "Card Your Mom Threw Out" Reprint, and 2 Bob Lemke Custom cards) Including 4 different mickey Mantle Cards!! 1955 was the final year of the great Topps Bowman baseball card wars. The war began in 1951 when Topps issued the Blue and Red Back sets, but it really intensified when Topps released the landmark 1952 set.

There was heated competition between the two companies to sign players to exclusive contracts and each year saw drastic decline in the number of players appearing in both sets. Number of players appearing in BOTH Topps and Bowman sets..

The Great Topps-Bowman Baseball Card War ended when Topps bought out the rival Bowman in 1956. Again, during the last year of competition, the Topps 1955 set only included a record low forty-five players that appeared in BOTH sets. Consequently, the 1955 Topps sets is missing many key players, first and foremost of which is the legendary Mickey Mantle. Others great Yankees, including both future hall of famers and stars did not appear in the 1955 Topps set, including Whitey Ford, Allie Reynolds, Don Larsen, and others. This custom built set tooks years of collecting to build and includes not only ALL the players that appeared in the 1955 Topps sets, but the others who were not included or left out of the set.

His hobby was designing and creating stunning "homemade" baseball cards of many of his favorite players from the postwar era, and producing heavily researched articles for his long-running blog, the eponymous Bob Lemke Blog. His cards were made in extremely limited quantities, often times only 8 or 9 cards to a sheet. Bob Lemke was my friend and his cards are amongst the most prized in my collection. Fortunately, being a New York Yankees fan, I often ordered multiples of his custom cards featuring Yankee players.
